Scholastic's Annual Read for The Year

Each December our school joins with other schools worldwide to read for the number of seconds that match the year.  There are schools reading in Canada, Indonesia, and countries in Africa as well as many from the United States.

Read Across America

Each year March 2nd is "National Read Across America Day".  It is also the anniversary of the birth of Dr. Seuss (Theodore Seuss Geisel).

Delaware Diamonds
Every year classes of students at Ross participate in the Delaware Diamonds Program.  Classes read from the selected booklist and then vote on their favorite books.  Their votes are added in with the rest of participants in the state to chose the winning books for the year. To see the booklist for this school year as well as previous winners go to: http://www.doe.state.de.us/dsra/deldiamonds.htm

I Love to Read Month
Each February is "I Love to Read Month".  February 14th is "I Love to Read Day".

Library Orientation

At the beginning of each school year every class comes to the library media center for an orientation to the rules and procedures in the library, as well as the location of the materials available. Students borrow their first library books during that visit and are then welcome to come to the library at any time during the school day to exchange their books. Students also come to the library during their expressive arts time to learn about library resources and do research.
