Hello Academically Talented Students!
Welcome to our A/T Web Page!
We have completed our first trimester of the 2008 - 2009 school year. Our new classroom has worked out really well; the students are able to make it to class quickly and we have gotten a lot accomplished. The fourth and fifth grade students put together a great "Mock Election". Hopefully a lot was learned about the election process because of this project. The third grade students are becoming familiar with some of the programs and activities that take place in A/T. We are ready to move on to some special projects at that grade level too!
On December 16th the third grade students will be attending a special reenactment of "Miracle on 34th Street which will take place at the Sussex County Courthouse in Georgetown. Actual members of our current judical system will be presiding over the case. It is a great follow-up to our unit on the legal system and the court cases that we read in class.
The third graders will begin a poetry unit and will also work on perfecting their computer skills. At the end of their poetry they will present the different forms of poetry discussed via a Power Point presentation.
Currently the fourth and fifth grade students are working on finishing some activities that revolve around the presidents. They will have a special presentation about the Presidents from the Visiting Scholars Program on November 21st.
The fourth and fifth grade students will soon be adopting a reading buddy from one of the second grades. They will be putting together some literature, and activities to go along with it, to use with their reading buddy.
As always, On-line 24 and Jumping 24 are activities that the students can all work on, at school and at home. Here are some web-sites we frequent:
www.firstinmath.com This is our on line 24 math web-site, it contains a large variety of mathematical activities.
www.numbersbee.com This site is another math related web-site where students can log on to practice math computation
www.scholastic.com Scholastic is a good site for parents who are looking for activities for their students to do at home.
